    1. What are the differences between Nordic walking and hiking?
Like hiking, Nordic walking is practised with poles. However, given that the terrain for these two disciplines is not the same, they require different types of equipment. Nordic walking is practised on flat terrain, so the poles help to propel you forwards for a thorough workout of the upper body. Conversely, hiking is practised on slopes with altitude changes, so the poles are used for balance and to avoid slipping.
    2. What are the specific requirements of Nordic walking poles?
The wrist straps (or gloves) are passed over the thumbs for letting go and catching the poles: which is the basic movement of this sport. The tips of the poles are adapted to the different types of terrain (wet or muddy). A metal tip is effective on dry or hard ground whereas a rubber tip provides more grip. The poles, which are preferably made of a single section, absorb vibrations and alleviate pressure on the joints. Nordic walking requires two poles. That's why they are sold in pairs.
    3. What are the benefits of Nordic walking?
Nordic walking is a complete and effective physical activity because it exercises many of the muscles in your body. Like other sports, it offers many advantages for health and staying in shape. It is also one of the sports that applies the least pressure on the joints while giving the body a good workout. Finally, it can be practised with poles in order to exercise the upper party (shoulders, abdominal muscles and arms). Find out more at
